The late Deputy Finance Minister Lawyer John Ampontuah Kumah’s final funeral is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Onwe in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The day before the funeral, the late member of parliament for the Ejisu constituency will have his body laid in state.
The late MP’s family made this revelation on Thursday at the one-week observance at Ejisu Onwe. Mr. Kumah, 45, lost his life in the early hours of March 7, 2024, having fought for it since November 2023.
John Ampontuah Kumah, popularly called Lawyer John Kumah, in Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, was commonly described by his constituents as a man of integrity with a focus on job creation and inspires hope for the future in both young and old.
The lawyer and entrepreneur, was married to Apostle Lilian Kumah, and left behind six children.
The MP assumed office as the Deputy Finance Minister in 2021, and served on Parliament’s Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises and Appointment Committees.
He was the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), a centre to stimulate growth in Ghana’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Under his leadership, the programme trained some 7,000 start-ups in 2018 under the Presidential Business Support programme and supported 1,350 beneficiaries with funds.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with Philosophy at the University of Ghana, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Law) LLB in 2011.
