The successful conduct of the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries, according to President Akufo-Addo, is evidence of the party’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law.

In the parliamentary primaries held last Saturday, ten ministers and deputy ministers seeking reelection to parliament on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) were defeated.

28 sitting members were defeated overall in the contest.

The president thanked the party and all participants in a statement on Sunday, January 28, mentioning that the NPP needs to remain focused in order to “break the 8.”

“I extend warm congratulations to the rank and file of the party, and applaud all stakeholders, the national, regional, constituency, electoral area and polling station executives of the party, the Electoral Commission, the security and the media for a job well done.”

“Let us stay the course, conduct ourselves well before the Ghanaian people, strengthen our organisation and win the 2024 elections” he stated.

“The parliamentary primaries of Saturday 27 January 2024, have effectively marked the completion of the final phase of internal contests in the New Patriotic Party for the general elections of 7 December 2024. Once again, through our conduct, we, in the New Patriotic Party, have demonstrated to the Ghanaian people that we are the party of democracy and rule of law,” President Akufo-Addo added.
