Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has made a plea to the ethnic groups involved in the Mamprusi and Kusasi following a courtesy call at his palace in Bawku, Upper East Region, Bawumia made the call to Zugran Naba Asigri Abugrago Azorka II, the ruler of the Kusaug Traditional Area, and his elders.

Bawku dispute to allow the regional peace to prevail.

According to Amadu Hamza, the municipal chief executive (MCE), at least 200 individuals have died in the rekindled Bawku violence between November 2021 and August 2023.

Because of intermarriages and linguistic similarities, Bawumia thinks the two groups who are essentially one people can coexist peacefully and harmoniously.

“Yesterday, I visited Bawku, in the Upper East Region, and paid a courtesy call on Zugran Naba Asigri Abugrago Azorka II, overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area and his elders at his palace.

“In our interactions, I appealed to Mamprusis and Kusasis embroiled in the Bawku conflict to let peace prevail so that they can live together as one people, for sustainable development to take place in the area.”

“It is indeed possible for Mamprusis and Kusasis in Bawku, who are fundamentally one people, due to inter-marriages and similarity in language, to live together in peace and harmony. I pledged my commitment to working together with all parties, towards achieving lasting peace for the good of the community and the people.” Bawumia wrote on Facebook.
