The Assin North by-election will include a female candidate from the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
This information was disclosed by the Founder and Leader of the LPG Percival Kofi Akpalu to the editor of Ghanatodayonline.com on June 15, 2023.
Bernice Enyonam Sefenu, a candidate, wants to take on Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party and James Gyakye Quayson of the New Democratic Congress for the position of Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin North Constituency.
As a result, there are now three parliamentary candidates running in the by-elections.
Mr Percival Kofi Akpalu, the 2020 flagbearer of the LPG party stated that the party is still dedicated to running in and winning the by-election as it gets ready for the 2024 general election.
“We wish to reiterate our commitment to contest and win the by-election as we prepare to win the 2024 election to better the lives of Ghanaians” Akpalu stated.
Thus, he urges party members and Assin North citizens to cast a large number of votes for Bernice Enyonam Sefenu, the party’s parliamentary candidate.
The contentious by-election is necessary as a result of a Supreme Court decision on May 17, 2023, which mandated that Parliament remove James Gyakye Quayson’s name from its records as the MP for Assin North due to allegations of possessing dual citizenship.
Gyakye Quayson, however, is the NDC’s nominee for the forthcoming by-election scheduled for June 27, 2023.
