Solomon Nkansah, a former national communications officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the biggest opposition group, has said that John Mahama is a problem for the party.

He claims that the former president of the NDC, who guided the party to two straight electoral losses in the 2016 and 2020 elections, has not drawn any lessons from the failure and is continuing down the same road that will eventually lead to another loss for the party in the upcoming 2024 election.

Speaking on the Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV on Wednesday monitored by Ghanatodayonline.com, Solomon Nkansah accused Mr. Mahama of taking the NDC party for granted and dared the former president to explain his intentions for the party to the party’s members.

“Mr Mahama has not changed, he’s taken the party for granted believing that at all cost the party members will vote for him to become Flagbearer. Who told him that? When he had the opportunity to speak to party members during his campaign launch last week, he spoke to party members one percent and spoke to Ghanaians ninety-nine percent. It was a diversion because he doesn’t have a message for NDC members.

If John Mahama is chosen as the flagbearer, the party will have a lot of work to do in order to win the 2024 election, he continued.

This is due to the lack of optimism and trust among the NDC’s base members regarding their futures should the party come to power in 2024.

Mahama is unable to step out because he has no plans to strengthen the NDC party; if he does, we will hold him accountable.

Branch and district leaders shouldn’t support a candidate who doesn’t outline his plans for expanding the party.

Last week, former president John Mahama began his campaign to become the NDC’s flagbearer for the elections in 2024 in the Volta Regional capital of Ho.
