Under the recently launched Adwumawura initiative, women, people with disabilities (PWDs), jobless youth, school dropouts, and young people from conflict-affected areas would make up at least 60% of the beneficiaries, according to President John Mahama.

Speaking at the Adwumawura Program’s launch in Kumasi on Monday, April 28, 2025, President Mahama clarified that the program is inclusive and will prioritize helping the most marginalized segments of society.

The young people from mining areas who were previously involved in illegal mining activities, known as “galamsey,” and women, particularly those employed in male-dominated industries, will receive special attention, he stressed.

Many young Ghanaians, according to President Mahama, have great business ideas but are unable to launch them due to a lack of funding and expertise.

Through the Adwumawura Program, they will have access to capital, coaching, mentorship, technology, machinery, and equipment to support the expansion of their businesses.

Additionally, successful candidates will be paired with seasoned business owners who will guide them as they develop long-term ventures. Beneficiaries will also have access to round-the-clock business advising services all year long to assist them in resolving any issues that may arise after establishing their companies.

According to him, the chosen companies would be evaluated on their capacity for job creation, sustainability, and scalability. To maintain fairness, applications will be accepted online and evaluated by an impartial party.

President Mahama promised that, unlike previous projects that collapsed for lack of funding, the Adwumawura Program is fully funded under the 2025 national budget.

“The program is open to university graduates, vocational school alumni, SHS leavers, and even those with little or no formal education,” he said, encouraging all young Ghanaians to apply, regardless of their educational background.

He emphasized in his closing remarks that the objective is to drastically lower youth unemployment and assist numerous young Ghanaians in transitioning from joblessness to successful business ownership, ensuring a brighter future for both the nation and themselves.
