President John Mahama has authorized the Ministry of Finance to give about $78 million to JustMoh Construction to clear all outstanding payment certifications owing to the company since 2024.

This will make it possible to finish the Takoradi–Agona–Nkwanta road, which is a vital section of the Trans-West African Highway that connects Ghana with Côte d’Ivoire.

During the President’s inspection of the stalled road construction, which is a component of the Trans-West African Highway that connects Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, the directive was made public on Saturday, December 20.

President Mahama blamed the protracted delays on the previous Akufo-Addo administration’s refusal to honor the contractor’s payment certificates after the contract was won in 2024.

“Last week, I directed the Finance Minister to pay all your outstanding certificates, which amount to almost 78 million dollars, so that you can continue the project and complete it ahead of schedule,” he stated.

The President claims that despite JUSTMOH Construction’s official engagement to carry out the project, no payments were issued to support the job, thereby impeding development on the vital route.

He promised that his administration will finish the Takoradi-Agona-Nkwanta road and other infrastructure projects that had been shelved or delayed nationwide.

President Mahama emphasized the strategic significance of the N1 corridor, pointing out that its completion would improve trade and mobility between Ghana and neighboring Côte d’Ivoire while creating economic opportunities for local populations along the road.

Concerns over projects impacted by the domestic debt swap scheme were also addressed by the President, who clarified that contractors who stayed on site in spite of financial difficulties would be paid.

“All those projects that were halted because of the debt exchange, the contractors stayed on site and continued some work to keep the projects alive. After January, the Minister will begin paying the additional costs they incurred and ask them to fully return to site to continue work,” President Mahama added.
