Former President John Mahama has pledged that under the National Democratic Congress’s next administration, Ghanaian farmers and teachers will be able to purchase affordable homes.

During his “Building the Ghana We Want” tour, the NDC flagbearer informed supporters in Nsawura, Western Region, that if he were to win the 2024 presidential election, he would give priority to building low-cost, affordable housing for teachers and farmers.

Mr. Mahama sympathized, saying, “Many workers are struggling with the 2-year advance rent scheme, and their salaries aren’t always enough to cover the costs.”

“To help build houses for their workers, my government will implement a rent assistance scheme to support associations like teachers and farmers,” he declared.

“We will set aside a portion of their pay each month for this purpose, and by the time they retire, they will own their own homes,” he clarified.

“We will take the housing scheme seriously”, he added, noting: “When I say housing, what I mean is affordable housing, and we will endeavour to price it in our local currency”.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 flagbearer emphasized the significance of letting the actual desires of the citizens show through in the election outcomes during his “Building Ghana Tour” in the Western North Region.

A credible election, according to Mahama, depends on the Electoral Commission’s honesty. Mahama addressed the students at the Nursing Training College and Wiawso College of Education, directly addressing the electoral commission officers and pleading with them to follow the regulations and guarantee a fair election process.

“They should do their duty to God and country. They shouldn’t cheat for anybody. I don’t want them to cheat for me, and they shouldn’t rig the election for anybody, they [EC] should let the wishes of the Ghanaian people prevail,” Mahama stated.

“I have that experience; I have been President of Ghana before, and you all know the work that I did when I was President. I know that on 7th December 2024, insha Allah [God willing], NDC will win the election” former President Mahama added.

John Mahama was the President of Ghana from 2012 to 2016, when he was defeated by Akufo-Addo in the presidential race.

In the 2020 election, he ran against Akufo-Addo once more without success.

He has stated his belief that he can win in 2024 and implement the reforms he feels the nation needs.
