Public calls for the immediate appointment of substantive Ministers for Science and Technology, Defense, and the Environment have been ignored by President John Dramani Mahama, who stated that the positions will be filled in 2026.

On Tuesday, November 25, he made the remarks while meeting with Muslim leaders at the Jubilee House.

The President asked the public to refrain from speculating about replacements in light of the recent deaths of Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

“They say Allah gives and Allah takes. He took two of our comrades and we haven’t filled those positions yet,” he said.

Mahama emphasized that there was no truth to the rumors concerning upcoming appointments. “I can see people speculating he is going to appoint new Defence minister, new Environment minister. We are not in a hurry,” he stated.

He promised that early in the following year, the government would designate the appropriate people.

“We will do those appointments next year. After the holiday, the Christmas and the holiday, we will fill those positions,” he said.

The President also urged people to ignore rumors that new ministers would be announced shortly.

“So those who are speculating about someone being appointed tomorrow and all that, just take your time, go enjoy Christmas, and we will fill those positions after Christmas,” he stated.

On Wednesday, August 6, this year, eight individuals, including the two ministers, perished in a helicopter crash while traveling to the Ashanti Region for a national assignment.
