John Mahama, the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged that the incoming NDC administration will prioritize the welfare of the people by appointing officials from all regions of the nation to uphold the Constitution’s inclusive governance principles.
As part of a three-day working visit to the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Mahama made the vow in response to concerns expressed by some traditional leaders in the capital at a meeting held at the Regional House of Chiefs at Dodowa last Monday.
During a speech to the chiefs, Mr. Mahama revealed plans to build a new conference hall for the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and turn the existing building into a museum honoring the area’s rich cultural legacy.
“Despite its age, the building has architectural elegance and we intend to preserve it by transforming it into a museum alongside the new conference centre for your meetings,” he said.
After speaking with the chiefs, the former president began his tour of the region. These nation-building trips have now taken him to nine of the sixteen regions of the nation.
The former president met with traders and addressed their issues at the Abossey Okai spare parts market in Accra after his visit to Dodowa.
Mr. Mahama conveyed his appreciation to them for their indispensable contribution to the country’s economy.
He reassured them of his dedication to resolving the difficulties they were facing in running their firm.
“I know the job you do supports the nation because if you need spare parts and you don’t get them from Abossey Okai, it creates obstacles for you.
We must remove impediments to make your work easier,” he highlighted.
The former president also spoke on the necessity of set prices for replacement parts in order to guard against fraud and guarantee equitable costs.
He emphasized the need to lower shipping line costs and shared intentions to work with banks to provide traders financing for products clearance.
