In the event that National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama is elected president on December 7, he has pledged to incorporate private secondary schools into the free SHS program.

Many private schools, in Mr. Mahama’s opinion, have the staff and resources needed to support the initiative.

In order to provide a solid foundation for the education sector and alleviate the burden that parents and the government continue to share at the secondary education level, he stated that his goal is to significantly invest in basic education starting in 2025.

Mr. Mahama declared that he is dedicated to pursuing the objective because he thinks every child in Ghana should have access to a high-quality education.

“Let’s build a brighter future for our children in the Ghana we want together,” he stated.

Speaking at the opening of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools’ 2024 annual week celebration, Mr. Mahama emphasized the value of private schools in giving Ghanaian children access to high-quality education.

The former President emphasized that because private schools have been innovators and leaders in implementing innovative teaching methods and policies into the system, they are essential collaborators with the government in the field of education.

“As the flag bearer of the NDC, I want to assure the association of private schools that an NDC government will prioritise education and work closely with all stakeholders to review the entire education structure from the basic to the tertiary level.”

“They have also been effective in handling special children due to their teacher-to-pupil ratio,” Mahama stated.
