In order to address the problems with the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program and improve educational results, President John Dramani Mahama has restated his commitment to making improvements.
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Mr. Mahama highlighted education as one of his main goals during his “Thank You Tour” of the Central Region.
He described strategies for bolstering the Free SHS program, including obtaining specialized funds and decentralizing food purchases to guarantee more effective operations.
“Education will remain a priority and we will work to provide the best possible learning environment for our children at all levels.
“And ensure that our youth have the skills needed to compete in the global economy. We plan to improve the Free SHS programme to secure dedicated funding and decentralised food procurement.”
Along with a pledge to upgrade tertiary institutions’ infrastructure to handle increasing student populations, Mr. Mahama also announced the implementation of a “no academic fees” program to offer financial aid for continuing students.
“Additionally, we will introduce a ‘no academic fees’ policy offering financial aid to continuing students and expand infrastructure for tertiary institutions.”
