President John Mahama has approved the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, providing complete legal support for a key initiative of the government’s economic transformation agenda.

In remarks made shortly after enacting the Bill, President Mahama stated that the lengthy process was necessary to ensure that all legal criteria were thoroughly fulfilled.

“I just appended my signature to give assent to the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill. This Bill Ghanaians have been waiting for; it was one of our flagship strategies for economic transformation,” he said.

The President noted that with the legal framework now in place, the focus must shift from planning to execution.

“From now, we must move from strategy to implementation. The business sector is waiting, Ghanaian investors are waiting, foreign investors are waiting,” he added.

He clarified that investors are eager to see the set of incentives the government would implement in order to boost investment, increase productivity, and establish long-term job possibilities, especially for young people.

President Mahama thanked the group that worked on the bill, praising Presidential Advisor Goosie Tanoh and his group in particular.

In terms of operationalizing the 24-hour economy policy and setting up Ghana for faster growth, he characterized the assent as a major turning point.
