In a video sighted by Ghanatodayonline.com on Saturday, November 1, Mustapha Gbande, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Deputy General Secretary (Operations), addressed some party members and claimed that the party currently receives GHS20,000 per month from the president to support party activities.
He said that the money comes directly from the president and is used to support the party’s operations throughout the nation.
“Today, as we speak, GHS20,000 goes to the constituency every month to service the party and it comes straight from the president,” he stated.
He claims that Ghana’s current system of administration is exceptional in that it is inclusive and has appointments from a wide range of backgrounds.
“As we speak, if you look at the forms and shapes of governance and governments that get formed, Ghana has never had the kind of government we have today. The support we got was so diverse that it didn’t just come from NDC people, so you realize that at one time he will appoint one stranger into our midst,” he explained.
Mr. Gbande further claimed that government appointments have favored party officials and their spouses, calling the circumstance “unusual in Ghana’s political history.”
“If your wife was not appointed, you yourself were appointed. So he did. Regional secretaries and a few chairmen took on the role of regional ministers for the first time, he said.
Several regional and constituency executives hold government posts, he said, demonstrating that the practice is widespread throughout the nation.
“For the first time in the history of our country, if you go to the regions, about eight to nine executives of every region have been appointed into government. And if you go to the constituencies, about eight or ten executives of every single constituency have been appointed into some office of government at some level,” Mr. Gbande said.
