Former president John Dramani Mahama, who is running for flagbearer for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has praised entrepreneur Ernest Kobeah for supporting him by dropping out of the campaign.
The businessman’s choice to withdraw from the contest despite having paid the nomination fee is “exemplary,” according to Mr. Mahama.
“Thank you Ernest Kobeah for your magnanimity in granting me your support to lead our great party, the NDC, to the 2024 elections,” Mr. Mahama wrote in a Facebook post on Monday, April 3, 2023.
“Your decision to withdraw from the contest, even after full paying the filing fees pegged for the contest, is exemplary,” he concluded.
Mr. Mahama said, “May the NDC get better and stronger.”

Mr. Kobeah was one of the four who had submitted a candidacy to run for the position of flagbearer, but he has since dropped out of the race to support the late President John Dramani Mahama.
On March 28, 2023, the NDC decided to delay Mr. Kobeah’s background check.
On the same day that Dr. Kwabena Duffour was to appear before the vetting committee, the businessman was also scheduled.
Mr. Kobeah spent less than an hour before the committee whereas his fellow candidate Dr. Duffour spent at least an hour and a half there since his vetting procedure was delayed.
Speaking to reporters, he disclosed that he will be expected to return on March 29, 2023.
The next day he resigned from the contest and threw his support to the former president John Dramani Mahama who got 1 on the ballot sheet of the NDC.
