The Public Relations Officer for the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Adam Abdul Majid, has described former President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to make first-year tertiary education free as “mere lip service”.
According to him, the policy is “dead on arrival” as the current arrangement at the SLTF already provides tertiary students with available funds for their education.
Mahama, the Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to make first-year tertiary education free, a pledge that has received a wide range of comments, with many describing it as a political gimmick aimed at getting votes in the 2024 polls.
Reacting to the promise, Mr. Abdul told Ghanatodayonline.com on tuesday that Mahama is not bringing anything new, revealing that the former president plans to use funds meant for student loans, which will have adverse effects on students as most will struggle to get money for the remaining years.
He has therefore called on the public not to fall for this promise and stay focused as the election approaches.
