The urgent reconvening of Parliament has been demanded by the Majority Caucus.
The Standing Orders of Parliament’s Article 112(3) and Order 53, which permit a recall of parliament by fifteen percent of the House’s members, were emphasized in a letter signed by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Two of the Majority Caucus’s top priorities in government business are a motion on greater finance and the adoption of the Thirty-Fourth Report of the Appointments Committee.
Parliament should meet again, according to the majority, to discuss a proposal for an “Additional Financing Agreement between GoG and the IDA for an amount of US$150 million to finance the ongoing Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project” and also a “Request for Tax Exemption for selected beneficiaries under the 1D1F Programme.”
“Mr Speaker, it is important to state that this request is being brought in good faith to enable Government to discharge its constitutional and democratic obligations to the people of Ghana,” the Majority caucus added.
On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the House met.
Within seven days, the Speaker is to recall parliament, according to the Majority petition. However, the speaker must provide the MPs with a 14-day notice of recall.
