Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has provided insight into the major political players blamed for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the general elections of 2024.

In an interview with Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Dankwah presented an analysis of an extensive post-election poll that the research firm had carried out.

Before reducing the list for a more structured, closed-ended survey, he said, the first strategy was to let respondents freely express who they thought was to blame for the NPP’s defeat and why.

“We wanted to find out what personalities people would assign blame to before heading to the field. From that study, we shortlisted the names most frequently mentioned and used them in our final survey,” he clarified.

According to the research, 68% of respondents cited the performance of his administration as the primary reason for the party’s electoral collapse, placing former President Nana Akufo-Addo at the top of the list.

Mr. Dankwah brought attention to the public’s dissatisfaction with the President’s condescending demeanor, particularly his contentious statements in the Ashanti Region that voters could vote for someone else if they didn’t agree.

“Many were disappointed with his refusal to heed calls from his own party to make changes in government. His disregard for traditional authorities also did not sit well with the electorate.”

According to the research, 40% of respondents blamed the defeat on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s involvement in the government’s economic management, making him the second most cited individual.

According to 37% of respondents, the party’s 2024 presidential candidate and vice president at the time, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, did not inspire enough confidence during his campaign.

Members of Parliament (25%), other government appointees (32%), and Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh (33%), among others, are also mentioned. Nine percent of respondents blamed Kennedy Agyapong, who ran in the NPP primaries but failed to guide the party into the general election.

Citing concrete data that paints a different picture, Mr. Dankwah also contested the claim that the defeat was due to voter indifference in the NPP’s strongholds.
