Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene and Krontihene of Asanteman, will be given a royal farewell by the Asante Kingdom. His funeral services are planned for June 6–9, 2025, in Asante Mampong.

On Monday, June 9, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, will attend the rituals’ culmination and perform the last rites of his longtime deputy.

Born Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie on December 31, 1939, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II died in April 2025 at the age of 85. The official announcement of his passing came on April 28, 2025.

On August 25, 1996, the late Asante Mampong Omanhemaa became the 28th occupant of the Silver Stool after taking over from his uncle, Nana Atakora Amaniampong II. A period of calm and progress was ushered in by his enstoolment, which signaled the end of almost twenty years of chieftaincy conflicts in Mampong.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II was the Regent of the Asante Kingdom from February 25 to April 26 in 1999 after Otumfuo Opoku Ware II passed away. He oversaw a seamless transition that resulted in the enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

During this time, his leadership played a crucial role in keeping the kingdom stable.

In addition to his traditional responsibilities, Daasebre was a renowned scholar and administrator.  From 1991 to his retirement in 2000, he worked for 28 years as the Registrar of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

During his time at KNUST, he worked to bring cultural diversity to the academic setting by bridging the gap between tradition and modernity.

Daasebre supported a number of development projects while serving as Mamponghene.  As a strong opponent of illegal mining (galamsey), he was able to ban such operations from his territory and encouraged other chiefs to follow suit.

Because of his dedication to education, he was able to provide secondary and tertiary education to a large number of gifted but underprivileged pupils in the Asante Mampong Traditional area.
