The death of a 28-year-old native of the Western Region village of Mpohor, who was shot dead by his colleagues last Friday about 8:30am near the banks of the Subiri River, has been confirmed by Ghanatodayonline.com.

Before the shooting, the deceased, Kwadwo Amoh nicknamed Mallam, is seen being recorded on film by five other coworkers, with one of them boasting about the juju they had learned to protect us from gunshots.

The suspect, 22-year-old Emmanuel Quayco, was given a loaded locally made gun and instructed to shoot by his other teammate.

The tragedy happened in the village of Ayiem in Mpohor.

As the video was being recorded amid cries of invincibility against any gunfire, including those from Ak47 rifles, the dead is seen being encouraged by a coworker to brace himself well for the pistol to be fired.

Amoh Kwadwo, also known as Mallam, was being held by one person when Emmanuel Quayco fired a shot, killing him instantly. The remaining people took off running, with some shouting “Jesus” and requesting that the victim be taken to the hospital right away.

The District Chief Executive of Mpohor, Hon. Ignatius Assah Mensah, verified the occurrence in a phone chat with the media and expressed his curiosity about what motivates today’s youth’s decadence.

“…as an indigene, I was born and bred in Ayiem where the incident took place. Just like the late Stephen Kraikue a renowned industrialist as well as another person who is now working in Barbados. We were all brought up in that same community so I keep wondering what may be amiss in the upbringing of the youth nowadays as we cannot attribute it to the village setting because like I said we all were raised there.

“The urge for the youth nowadays to cut corners in life at all cost is resulting in such dastardly acts. Now you go for juju for gunshot and after it is shot, and someone dies you are now shouting Jesus;” he stated.

The protagonist, who was giving them instructions and holding the hand of the victim to be shot, has, however, fled with the above mentioned firearm and is currently on the run. He said that the Police had already apprehended Kwadwo Amoh, the person who fired the rifle.

When he returns from his trip to Accra by today’s end, he would personally visit the community to acquire a firsthand account of the occurrence. He acknowledged that some of the names are well-known because he knows their parents.

One suspect has been taken into custody by the police in connection with the August 25, 2023, slaying of a 28-year-old male in Ayiem, Western Region.

According to preliminary evidence, Emmanuel Quayco, along with five other alleged accomplices who are currently on the run, were about to demonstrate the strength of their purported spiritual abilities when he shot and killed Amoh Kwadwo alias Mallam with a single-barrel gun that was loaded with an AA cartridge.
While efforts are being made to apprehend the other five suspects, the suspect is currently in police custody, aiding the investigation.
