Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, the convener of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining, is requesting that the Office of the Special Prosecutor and other statutory investigative bodies look into the allegations made by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the former chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

The former minister of environment, science, and technology accused some powerful people in government of engaging in illegal small-scale mining, also known as “Galamsey,” and of interfering with the work of the committee tasked with combating the threat, in a bombshell report written by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng at the request of the chief of staff.

In response, Dr. Ashigbey stated in a News interview, “It is really concerning that we have this information and nothing has been done about it. This cannot be tolerated. Professor Frimpong-Boateng has made accusations of criminal activity, but in our nation, everyone is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor, the Police CID, and other organizations should be able to handle it, and CHRAJ can look into these matters. I’m hopeful that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources as well as the Ministry of Local Government would examine the report.

“I’m hoping that all of these individuals would take action because President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo needs to call the police to look into it” Mr Ashigbey stated.
