Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has given the Upper West Regional Health Directorate more than GH¢300,000 in vital medical supplies to help combat meningitis in the region.
The donation is to improve the region’s ability to monitor and treat meningitis cases. It contains essential supplies including Ceftrioxone injections, reception injections, Ringers Lactate Injections, spinal needles, Normal Saline, and Dexamethasone.
On Sunday, February 16, 2025, the Speaker presented the directorate with 2,100 units of Ringers Lactate Injection, 1,600 units of Reception Injection, and 8,400 units of Ceftrioxone Injection.
Other items include 300 units of dexamethasone, 2,100 units of normal saline, and 12 packs of spinal needles.
It is anticipated that this prompt donation would help address the region’s critical medical supply shortfall, allowing medical professionals to treat and care for patients more effectively.
The Speaker, a former Health Minister, is dedicated to enhancing Ghana’s healthcare system.
His gift is evidence of his continued commitment to meeting Ghanaians’ medical needs, especially in areas like the Upper West, which frequently experience specific healthcare difficulties.
There has been an increase in meningitis cases in the Upper West Region, and our donation will surely help the Regional Health Directorate and medical staff fight the outbreak.
As of right now, the area has 129 suspected cases, 22 confirmed cases, and 16 fatalities.
