The recent power supply issues that have resulted in unexpected load shedding nationwide have prompted the Energy Committee of Parliament to organize a thorough discussion with all significant players in the power chain.

The meeting is slated for Saturday, April 6, 2024, and is expected to include participation from the Ministry of Energy, the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Independent Power Producers (IPPs), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Bui Power Authority, the Northern Electricity Development Company, and Ghana Gas Company Limited.

The Ranking Member of the Energy Committee, Mr. John Abu Jinapor, made it clear that the main goal of the gathering is to obtain firsthand knowledge of the problems influencing the nation’s mix of power generation.

He made it clear that the goal of the conference is to work together to find long-term solutions to the problem, which is also referred to as “dumsor,” rather than to place blame.

Mr. Jinapor emphasized the committee’s authority by comparing it to a High Court and cautioned interested parties against giving misleading information since doing so may result in charges of perjury.

“As a committee vested with the powers akin to those of a High Court, individuals found to be dishonest may face legal consequences,” warned him.

In an interview with Joy FM, on Thursday, April 4, 2024, Mr. Jinapor shared these views and expressed the committee’s commitment to tackling the enormous effect of electricity issues on individuals and companies.
