The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is receiving complaints from Momo Agents and the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MOMAG) over the E-levy that is being applied on agent SIM cards.
They contend that their companies are being taxed twice as a result of this charge.
MOMAG said that no suitable resolution has been reached despite having conversations with the GRA to resolve their issues.
As per MOMAG, the financial sustainability of their operations is being greatly affected by the supplementary tax in addition to the current income tax of 10% on transactions.
MOMAG made clear how serious the issue is in a statement that was made public on March 20, 2024, a Wednesday.
They claim that their members might suffer significant financial losses if this problem is not resolved quickly.
The Association called on the government to step in and force the GRA to change its mind, especially the Ministry of Finance and other pertinent parties.
The National Secretary, Kingsley J. Amoako-Atta, has signed the statement, which highlights the excessive cost imposed by the 1% levy on all push and pull transactions from banks as well as the E-levy on Agent SIM cards.
MOMAG threatened to take serious steps including store closures and demonstrations if its issues are not addressed.
