With a renewed focus on working with local communities to develop collaborative development solutions, telecom behemoth MTN Ghana has launched the 2025 edition of its most prominent social investment program, Y’ello Care.
The 18-year-old annual campaign is moving toward a more inclusive strategy and away from traditional volunteer-led interventions.
The theme for this year, “Y’ello Care: Connecting at the Root,” highlights MTN’s dedication to strengthening involvement through community collaboration, learning, and listening.
MTN Ghana’s Northern Sector General Manager, Nii Adotey Mingle, stated during the launch in Kumasi that volunteers are collaborating with communities rather than imposing solutions.
“We are going to work side-by-side with them,” he said. “Development that lasts is development that is built with community participation, grounded in local context and sustained trust.”
Y’ello Care is MTN’s flagship 21-day volunteer initiative that aims to empower marginalized communities and close the digital divide. The program has had an impact through infrastructure development, training in digital skills, and educational support for almost 20 years.
The initiative this year supports farmers in adopting smart farming methods, offers free ICT training, and offers courses on social media and content production.
All MTN staff members were encouraged by Mr. Mingle to consider the significance of establishing connections at the local level.
“The power of technology is only as meaningful as the lives it uplifts, let’s be the bridge between potential and progress. Let’s build a digital Ghana that leaves no one behind” he stated.
The Corporate Affairs Manager of MTN Ghana’s Northern Business District, Madam Charity Akosua Darko, stated at the formal launch of the 2025 edition of Y’ello Care at Kaase in the Ashanti region that a staff volunteerism initiative will run from June 1st to June 21st, 2025.
Madam Darko also revealed that the MTN mCare program is one among the initiatives that will be carried out under the 21 Days of Y’ello Care 2025 edition.
It is a digital health platform made to provide people with easy-to-use healthcare options.
After beneficiaries register using a smartphone, MTN Ghana will cover their medical expenses for the first two to three months of their subscription as part of a medical insurance package.
The goal of this intervention is to provide rural residents with high-quality healthcare right at their doorstep.
“This year’s MTN Y’ello Care intends to drive a mobile ICT van to educate students in selected schools, deliver digital skills training to youth, women and persons with disabilities, Provide school uniforms for needy pupils. Empower communities with the tools to thrive in the digital world. Smart farming for women in Northern region. Insurance for Mobile health care” Madam Darko added.
The Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Savannah, North East, Upper West, and Upper East are among the regions designated to receive benefits from the mCare under the 2025 Y’ello Care.
