The relationship between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Minister of Energy Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh will aid the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in winning the 2024 elections, according to Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid, CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
He thinks that the Minister of Energy would make a fantastic running partner.
He mentioned, among other things, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also referred to as Napo, as having a lengthy history with the party and a thorough understanding of its tenets and beliefs, which made him a good fit for the position.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh is a strong contender who shouldn’t be disregarded, according to Dr. Hamid, who emphasized that he brings significant political value to the party and has demonstrated political acumen.
“The candidate won’t ask for my opinion, but if he were to ask my opinion that all the names that have been thrown around who will give us political value and political capital, I would say Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
“First of all, he is a political colossus in our tradition. He has been a political participant in our political tradition for ages.”
“So he knows the party well and knows our philosophies and principles of our party. The other thing is that, ever since he held political office, he has accomplished. I was in cabinet with him and for the four years that we were in cabinet, he at the Ministry of Education tabled and passed the most reforming laws,” he told JoyNews.
The First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has added his voice to calls for Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate to be selected from the Ashanti region.
This follows intense competition among some New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament over who partners with the newly elected flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Names that have emerged so far are Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh; the Minister for Energy, Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei -Owusu and Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has announced that, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will choose his running mate in 2024.
The Suame Member of Parliament (MP), has said this is in accordance with the NPP’s constitution which mandates the flagbearer to name his running mate six months before the general elections.
