Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third national vice chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has defended allegations that former deputy minister of finance John Kumah died as a result of eating guinea fowl, or akofem, at a hotel.

Masawudu wrote, “When I ordered tuo zaafi and akonfem when I arrived, everybody had the option to have what they liked.” Masawudu claimed to be one among the 200 persons who consumed the meat.

He attacked Captain Smart’s claim that he had been poisoned during the Tamale event, saying that his goal was to ruin the Dagombas’ reputation and disparage the northern region and people’s livelihood.

Masawudu urged the public to disprove such assertions, adding that the late Kumah did not appear particularly fit when he was last seen.

Oheneba Nana Asiedu, host of Wontumi TV/FM show, detailed the circumstances surrounding the passing of the late Dr. John Kumah, Deputy Finance Minister.

Oheneba said that the late minister, who was also an Ejisu Member of Parliament, had been poisoned with guinea pig flesh (Akonfem) during a segment on Wontumi FM.

Asiedu said that on October 22, while staying at the same hotel in Tamale, Northern Region, the late legislator and Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), were fed the suspected poisoned meat.
