Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s minister of foreign affairs, has announced intentions to implement 24-hour passport services with the goal of increasing processing speed and decreasing delays.

This project is a component of larger changes aimed at improving the responsiveness and citizen-friendliness of the passport system.

Ablakwa underlined the necessity of immediate adjustments while speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints on Saturday, February 8th: “Ghanaians cannot put up with lengthy passport application wait times. My goal is to set up a 24-hour service that guarantees accurate and timely passport issuing.

Ablakwa promised the public that his ministry will give efficiency and transparency in passport issuing top priority, acknowledging the problems that many Ghanaians experience when trying to obtain passports. Using technology would be essential, he said: “We will invest in digital solutions, expand processing centres, and enhance service delivery to ensure that passports are issued within the shortest possible time.” This pledge is part of a larger initiative to update Ghana’s passport system to conform to international norms.

The launch of 24-hour services is consistent with Ablakwa’s promise to also reduce exorbitant application fees. He feels that residents should be able to obtain passports without having to pay for them: “A passport is a fundamental right for every citizen, not a luxury,” he said earlier.  Ablakwa wants to make the process of obtaining a passport easy for all Ghanaians by emphasizing both affordability and efficiency.

Ablakwa’s vision demonstrates his dedication to improving public service by expediting administrative procedures without sacrificing the quality of service provided: “This is about providing better service to the people. We’ll do everything we can to ensure that getting a passport is easy for every Ghanaian,” he said. Stakeholders’ participation is still vital as they proceed with digitization initiatives meant to increase overall efficiency without sacrificing service quality, even halfway through the implementation of these reforms.
