Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister-designate for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has pledged to address the problem of caterers’ payment delays under the government’s school feeding program.

Her reassurance comes as worries about outstanding arrears and the standard of schoolchildren’s food are becoming more widespread.

On Wednesday, January 22, during her vetting by the Appointments Committee, Naa Momo gave Ghanaians her word that she would solve these issues and guarantee the program’s successful execution.

“Our manifesto clearly outlines our goal to address the bottlenecks in school feeding and capitation grants. We even aim to extend the program to private schools,” she stated.

“From my checks, about 40 days of payments have been made, but 31 days remain in arrears. This is something I am committed to resolving.”

In order to develop long-term solutions, Naa Momo emphasized her collaborative approach and pledged to hold open discussions with stakeholders.

She also emphasized the need of giving the program’s food quality first priority.

“One of my strengths is fostering dialogue with all involved to achieve sustainable outcomes. With payments already initiated, I am confident that the president is committed to not only maintaining the program but also ensuring the quality of food is upheld,” Naa Momo added.
