An Amasaman High Court has shortened the 15-year prison term given to convicted Ghanaian fetish priestess turned preacher, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, to 12 months.
Media sources indicate that the High Court determined the initial sentence given to Agradaa was severe and disproportionate, thus replacing it with a one-year prison term.
The updated sentence is effective starting from her conviction date, July 3, 2025. This indicates that Agradaa has about five months remaining in her sentence.
Agradaa is presently detained at the Nsawam Female Prison after being found guilty by an Accra Circuit Court on July 3, 2025. She was convicted of fraudulent advertising and deceiving through false claims.
The conviction arose from accusations that she obtained different amounts of money from church members by asserting she had spiritual abilities to double their funds. Prosecutors informed the court that Agradaa utilized Today’s TV and various social media outlets to promote the scheme and encouraged the public to attend an overnight church service, guaranteeing financial growth through spiritual assistance.
Over 1,000 individuals allegedly went to the service and gave her substantial amounts of money to double. Nevertheless, the anticipated gains were never provided, resulting in numerous victims facing financial hardship.
After her conviction, Agradaa and her attorneys lodged an appeal challenging the verdict and the sentence. Her initial appearance before the Amasaman High Court was on December 4, 2025.
In her appeal, Agradaa claimed that the trial was unjust, that the evidence shown did not back the conviction, and that the 15-year prison sentence was overly harsh.
The High Court, while confirming parts of the conviction, acknowledged that the sentence needed to be lowered.
