Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Nana Ohene Ntow has criticized the party for how it handled the selection of its flagbearer for the 2024 presidential elections.

Ohene Ntow said during an interview on Adom TV monitored by Ghanatodayonline.com that those who publicly support one of the NPP’s potential flagbearers, Alan Kyerematen, are being punished, with some losing their jobs.

On the other hand, he said, no action is being taken against NPP and government representatives who are publicly endorsing Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for like reasons.

“The party deliberately brushes aside issues when they are caused by one side of the party but for the other side of the party, you see action being taken… In recent times you see some of the leaders of the party, MPs and ministers declaring their support of Dr Bawumia.

“Antwi Boasiako is in Kumasi saying Bawumia must win, Chairman Samba is in Tamale saying he has declared (Bawumia as the winner) … Antwi Boasiako is the one going to organise the primaries in the Ashanti Region and he is saying Bawumia must win which means he will do all he can to make Bawumia the winner” Nana Ohene Ntow added.

“In the meantime, polling station coordinators who endorsed Alan Kyerematen are being fired from their positions. Public sector employees who have shown support for Alan are sacked; one such employee was just fired in Tamale,” he stated in Twi.

The treatment of those who have publicly stated their support for Alan, he said, is not the greatest and will ultimately cause the party to become more divided.

According to the former national secretary of the NPP, the party may eventually fall apart before the general elections in 2024 if it does not correctly manage problems relating to the presidential primaries.
