Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s vice presidential candidate, has urged the people of Gonjaland to support a political party with a stronger track record of delivering development.
He contends that since achieving development is the real goal of democracy, it is the responsibility of the electorate to choose political leaders who put their development demands first.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh underlined that when it comes to development issues, no political party in Ghana is comparable to the NPP.
He said that in addition to implementing the most social intervention programs in the history of the country, the NPP has completed more development projects nationwide, including in Gonjaland, than any other government.
These statements were made during his constituency-focused campaign visits of the Northern Region on Thursday, November 7, 2024, when he paid a courtesy call on Yagbonwura Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of Gonjaland, at the Ndewura Jakpa Palace in Damango.
“Since politics is all about development, the politician who is not your son but gives you development and attends to your needs is the one you should vote for,” NAPO, as he is affectionately known, emphasized. He is more deserving of your vote than even your undeveloped son.
He listed the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government’s establishment of the Savanna Region for Gonjaland as one among the numerous justifications for Gonjaland residents to support the NPP.
He claims that the establishment of the Savanna Region has made it possible for the region to undertake numerous development projects.
He claimed that the people of Gonjaland have not yet given the NPP any electoral rewards for creating the Savanna Region, as the Chiefs and populace had demanded for more than 40 years.
“Your son [John Mahama] who hails from here could not meet this legitimate demand of yours when he was President despite promising to do the same. It had to take President Akufo-Addo who hails from the Eastern Region to grant your demands. The person who helps you to develop is your brother, not the person who your mother gave birth to”, Napo stated.
