As part of his campaign to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid in the December 7 election, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), visited the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday.

As the NPP running mate engaged with both staff and trainees, a large number of health workers cheered him on and sang and chanted in support.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also referred to as “Napo,” had previously met with nursing students and medical staff at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Wednesday.

Speaking to the excited crowd in Pantang, Napo warned the nurses and trainees not to vote for National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Mahama. He expressed concern that an NDC administration might abolish the nursing trainee allowances, which the NPP has promised to keep in place as an essential source of funding for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

Napo reaffirmed the NPP’s dedication to enhancing healthcare and increasing job opportunities for medical professionals throughout Ghana.

Through the government’s Agenda 111 plan, which entails building new hospitals around the country, he said that an NPP administration led by Bawumia will increase employment possibilities for medical professionals.

To further the advancement of healthcare, he asked the nurses and medical professionals to cast their votes in favor of Dr. Bawumia and the NPP.

Speaking to the local health professionals and trainee nurses, Robert Lamptey, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Madina, pledged better living conditions and more hostel facilities for healthcare trainees in and around Madina.

By assuring them that their wellbeing will continue to be a top concern under an NPP government, Mr. Lamptey urged the medical professionals to support Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.

In the run-up to the December election, the NPP is continuing to mobilize support among healthcare professionals nationwide with these pledges to healthcare infrastructure, job development, and trainee allowances.
