The National Service Scheme (NSS) management has been successful in getting the government’s blessing for an increase in the monthly allowances paid to National Service Personnel.
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and the Scheme all engaged in fruitful discussions, according to a statement from the NSS signed by Ambrose Entsiwah Jr., the Acting Director of Corporate Affairs.
It was stated in a formal letter dated July 18, 2023, and signed by Abena Osei-Asare (MP), the deputy minister of finance.
The letter also gave the Controller and Accountant-General instructions to immediately apply the revised allowance levels as part of the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of National Service Personnel.
All existing National Service Personnel who have been actively serving are now eligible, beginning in January 2023, to receive arrears commensurate to the difference arising from the upward adjustment.
The management of the plan guarantees the staff that the required administrative steps are being taken to guarantee the quick release of these arrears.
The statement thanked the government for its permission and urged all National Service Personnel to exercise patience as administrative processes came to a close.
The management hopes that the increased allowances would improve the National Service experience overall and contribute to the welfare of the workforce.
