The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked for live broadcasting of their next meeting with the Election Commission (EC).

The party stated that making the meeting public would promote transparency in a letter dated September 4, 2024, written by the general secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey. “We request for a live broadcast of our presentation of observations found in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) to your team.”

“This, we believe, will give true meaning to transparency as found in your motto,” Hon. Kwetey added.

This comes after the EC suggested a meeting with the NDC on September 6, 2024, as part of their continued engagement, to talk further about the voter exhibition exercise. “We propose a meeting on Friday, 6th September 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the Corporate Head Office of the Electoral Commission.”

Before the general elections of 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) raised doubts about the legitimacy of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR), which prompted the Ghanaian Electoral Commission (EC) to take action.

“Like any human endeavor, is bound to contain human errors and discrepancies,” Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairman for Corporate Services, emphasized in a letter dated August 28, 2024.

Dr. Asare continued, “Voter exhibition activity is crucial in ensuring the validity of the final register.” “The statute has designated a timeframe for exhibiting the provisional register in order to guarantee that irregularities and errors be fixed. Since the Fourth Republic’s founding, this has been the standard procedure. According to the letter, this is nothing new.

The NDC was reassured by the EC that it is committed to offering a trustworthy registration process for the next election. “Our team is working nonstop to make sure that before the Final Voters Register is produced, all anomalies and problems with the Register are addressed.”
