The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been accused by the Ashanti Regional chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of orchestrating a smear campaign against prominent Asante-descent NPP officials, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

The NDC has engaged people to criticize well-known NPP members, according to NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi.

This accusation follows allegations that former President Kufuor was insulted by NDC member Dela Edem and Movement for Change leader Alan Kyerematen for supporting NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia prior to the 2024 elections.

While upholding a dedication to polite conversation, Chairman Wontumi underlined that the NPP will not accept insults directed at its members.

He asked those in politics to avoid insults in order to maintain a calm environment until the 2024 elections.

The growing hostilities between the NDC and NPP in the run-up to the elections are highlighted by this development.
