The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been charged by Dr. Bossman Asare, a deputy chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), of misleading their followers about purported outstanding flaws with the provisional voter’s record.

He claims that the NDC is inflating issues that are not listed in the voter registration.

Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, September 14, Dr. Asare said that because the concerns have already been handled, there is no justification for the NDC to criticize the EC over any irregularities.

“We at the Electoral Commission think that the NDC leadership who have taken the route of demonstration is misinforming their people. They seem to be exaggerating problems in the register which are non-existent.

“The Commission has made it very clear openly to the NDC, openly to the good people of Ghana, international partners that we have a register that is robust, that is credible,” he said.

Dr. Asare restated that the EC has addressed all of the purported concerns, and that the NDC is misrepresenting them to its members.

He emphasized that the 2016 voter registration had more issues than the current one in response to questions about whether the NDC should trust the EC, particularly in light of the fact that the party did not voice objections during the 2016 elections despite problems with that register but is now objecting to issues with the register.

“We were trying to make the point that even in the 2016 register, there were more problems than what we are talking about now but the NDC didn’t raise any serious issues then.

“And we think that the issues they are raising now, they are problems we have addressed and the Electoral Commission is saying that we have addressed and we are inviting them to the discussion table. We can do so with all the political parties,” he said.

He continued by saying that the NDC is invited to settle any outstanding concerns so that all parties may go into the general elections on December 7 with faith in the registered voters. The EC is dedicated to holding peaceful and credible elections.
