After talks between national and regional executives in Accra, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Northern Regional Vice-Chairman.
At the party’s regional secretariat, Alhaji Gbewaa is said to have attacked Hajia Shamima Yakubu following heated arguments over party finances over the weekend.
As stated by Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary, during an interview on Joy FM’s Midday News, the officer “has been suspended for three months.”
Mr. Gbande states that this includes “pending investigations and all other processes that will enable the party to look into the issues properly for a final redress.”
The Northern Regional Treasurer suffered facial injuries during the altercation.
A pivotal stakeholder meeting last weekend was the catalyst for the escalation of tensions.
After being detained, Gbewaa was later freed on bond.
But yesterday, his supporters protested by locking up the regional party office because they were upset by the development.
Executives from the NDC met in Accra to discuss the issue that led to the suspension in an urgent attempt to heal internal rifts.
