In protest of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) handling of inconsistencies in the voter register, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared intentions to hold statewide rallies on September 17, 2024.
The party’s complaints surfaced during the most recent voter exhibition process, when they found many anomalies in the registration.
After these issues were discussed in a meeting with the EC, the NDC asked for a forensic audit of the register; the EC refused.
NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah announced to the public the party’s determination to plan a statewide protest after filing presidential candidacy forms on John Mahama’s behalf.
Protesters in 16 regional capitals will march to regional EC offices on September 17. National executives will also deliver a formal appeal to the EC’s Accra headquarters.
“On the 17th of this month [September], the NDC is embarking on a massive nationwide demonstration in all 16 regional capitals, descend on the electoral commission officers and we in Accra will descend to the headquarters and present further petitions as to why we think that they should conduct themselves in a manner that will guarantee peaceful, free and fair election” Asiedu Nketia stated.
