Mawutor Agbavitor, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) regional chairman for Volta, has pledged to give the NDC one million votes in the general elections of 2024.
At the June 4th Revolution’s 44th anniversary celebration held at Hohoe on Sunday, he said this.
“For us, the 44th anniversary celebration in the Volta region is a groundbreaking launch of our campaign toward 2024 and a launch to deliver one million votes for the NDC as well as to win all 18 seats in the region.”
He added that the decision to hold this year’s ceremony at Hohoe “is not by accident.”
According to him, the selection of Hohoe “is for us (NDC) to reflect on what has happened which was an anomaly of which we are determined to correct in the next election.”
He also gave the party’s youthful members advice on how to incorporate the values of the June 4th Revolution into their political endeavors.
We cannot overlook the significance of June 4th; the essential ideals were the bravery shown by the forebearers, the guts to stand up for the truth, and the probity, accountability, and transparency.
“As young people, it is up to us to internalize these values to direct our political journey. The best tribute we can give to our ancestors would be for us to win the 2024 election, Mr. Agbavitor said. He also stressed the need of being fair to everyone and working very hard.
Jerry John Rawlings, the late former president and founder of the NDC, conducted a military takeover known as the June 4th Revolution in 1979.
Corruption and perceived poor leadership in the nation at the time were both blamed for the Revolution.
