According to Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) communications director, the next NDC administration will look into and prosecute any prominent members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who were involved in illegal mining, including Bernard Antwi Bosiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, Ekow Awusi, Charles Bissue, and others.
He has emphasized that there is sufficient evidence to charge and imprison these individuals for wrongful destruction of forest reserves, farms, and water bodies.
On Thursday, October 6, Sammy Gyamfi told the media in Accra that if the NDC in power does not bring charges against chairman Wontumi and others to prevent others, it will be the saddest day of his life.
“The saddest day in my life will be the day NDC fails to prosecute Chairman Wontumi, Ekow Awusi and Charlse Bissue for engaging in mining without permit.
“We have enough visual evidence to prosecute these people and all the key members of the NPP who are actively engaged in the illegal menace,” he echoed.
Sammy Gyamfi called President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-reaffirmed Addo’s resolve to combat galamsey a fantasy, a con, and a lost war.
He emphasized that the government’s performance in the battle against illegal mining is a complete failure.
He clarified that while NDC is not against all mining in the nation, it is opposed to mining in water bodies and expects the government to take harsh action against those engaged in such unlawful operations.
