John Dramani Mahama, the leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), has promised that the NDC administration that he will lead will not follow the NPP’s example of poor governance.

The current NPP administration, according to Mr. Mahama, has a dreadful track record of poor governance, insensitivity to the condition of Ghanaians, excessive corruption, and extravagance. He was speaking at a durbar held in Hohoe on Sunday to commemorate his party’s 44th anniversary of the June 4th Revolution.

In his opinion, the NDC must not imitate the June 4th Revolution’s tenets and values when the party regains power in 2024.

“In government, we must be different from what the NPP has been. We must set a new standard in governance so that Ghanaians will appreciate that we are not condemned as a people to live with this level of greed and impunity” Mahama said.

As the inheritors of the spirit of June 4th, I dare say we cannot become a clone of the NPP or else Ghanaians would have lost all hope of salvation, he continued. “I hear people say we must come to power and also exact our pound of flesh,” he said.

In the meantime, the former president is urging Ghanaians not to give up in the face of the country’s current economic difficulties and has guaranteed that when the NDC assumes power, a new dawn will soon break.

He declared that when the new dawn arrived, the problems with the government, the economic troubles, the indifference to the plight of the populace, the obnoxious corruption, and the squandering of the populace’s resources would all be history.

“To the millions of young Ghanaians out there for whom affording one meal a day is a very serious challenge. To the thousands of business people whose businesses face ruined because of the gross mismanagement of this economy, I urge you not to despair, there is hope on the horizon. I look forward with hope that a day is coming when a new paradigm shift is going to occur,” Mr. Mahama added.

When Ghanaians go to the polls in December 2024, the 2024 NDC flagbearer also urged them not to lose sight of the hardship and poor leadership the nation has experienced under the Nana Addo-Bawumia-led NPP government.

He urged party members to remain inspired by the Revolution’s enduring flame as they strive for victory in 2024.
