Under the name Operation Recover All Loot Brigade (ORAL), a group of members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing has declared that on September 4, 2024, they would hold a demonstration at the Finance Ministry.

The organization is requesting answers as well as a refund of money that was allegedly stolen in dubious deals.

Several examples of what ORAL refers to be opaque transactions have been brought to light. These include the US$34.9 million Ambulance Spare Parts contract, the GRA-SML agreement, and expenses associated with the All-African Games.

They specifically claim that there has been a lack of openness and possible cost inflation in the way the government has handled the national ambulance agreement.

The organization wants to make sure that public monies were used properly by conducting a comprehensive inquiry into these transactions.

The picketing outside the Finance Ministry, according to Osman Ayariga, the convenor of ORAL, is a part of a larger series of protests scheduled at several governmental offices to demand prompt action on financial irregularities.

Ayariga emphasized that the group’s objectives are to uphold the values of honesty and openness in the handling of public funds and to rebuild public trust in the financial management system.

He also issued a warning, saying that unless their demands are fulfilled, ORAL will keep picketing and occupying government buildings they believe to be corrupt.

“In view of the Oral objectives, we are organizing a picketing at the Ministry of Finance and subsequently at the Jubilee House and any government establishments involved or suspected to be involved in corruption or corruption-related matters to demand immediate and decisive action regarding several troubling financial improprieties that have recently come to light” he stated.
