New Juaben South NPP Primaries: Yaa Ansah Safori disqualified for forgery and impersonation

In the course of the party’s ongoing vetting process, a prospective NPP Parliamentary candidate for the Eastern Region’s New Juaben South constituency has been cited for impersonation and forgery.

According to Afeema FM, a radio station in Koforidua, Yaa Ansah Safori, the candidate running against Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, the current member of Parliament, is accused of presenting fake documents to the party’s vetting committee.

This was discovered at Koforidua Residency during the party’s vetting process for 85 candidates running for parliament.

According to a petition the vetting committee received on Thursday from a complainant, Madam Yaa Ansah Safori was disqualified due to evidence of forgery and impersonation for her alleged endorsement of a polling station executive’s signature.

To this end, the Eastern Regional Vetting Committee has declared the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South who doubles as a deputy minister in charge of Industries, Michael Okyere Baafi, to go unopposed following the disqualification of his sole contender, Yaa Ansa Safori.

Rumors has it that Madam Yaa Ansah Safori will be reported on criminality to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations.

Addressing the media after vetting on Thursday, the Eastern regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Jeff Kunadu Addo has said individuals who are desiring to occupy the office as a member of Parliament must demonstrate that they are beyond reproach.

Mr. Jeff Kunadu Addo who confirmed the situation said, forging signatures to hoodwink the members of the vetting Committee of the Party to accept one’s forms is a crime and that is worrying.

Meanwhile, aspirants and their followers has been cautioned against campaigns of political ‘blackmail’ in their bid to lead their constituencies in the 2024 elections.

The regional chairman told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Afeema FM that, a more decorous campaign was required from the aspirants to maintain the unity within the rank and file of the party.

Each of the candidates are asked to help their supporters understand that the real fight doesn’t start until after January 27. In light of this, Mr. Jeff Kunadu Addo has emphasized the importance of maintaining party unity following the contest in order to keep the National Democratic Congress from winning the 2024 elections.

After passing the vetting process, the unopposed parliamentary candidate, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, expressed strong confidence in keeping the New Juaben South seat.

He claims that in anticipation of a landslide victory for both the presidential and parliamentary seats, his campaign team and the constituency executives will begin an unprecedented campaign in the constituency.
