Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, the Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), said that the organization is starting a registration drive for children aged six to fourteen.
During a media engagement in Kumasi on Saturday, May 18, 2024, Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah said that the exercise, which is free of charge, will start on June 10th, 2024.
He noted that in order to achieve successful results, the NIA and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) will work together at these exercise schools around the nation.
“The exercise which we are going to begin from June 10, 2024 will be dedicated to children from the ages of six (6) to 14 who are not yet 15 years”. Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah said this in an interview with the media.
“This is not a mass registration unlike what we did some years ago. This is not time for replacement of card for people to trop in for that. No, we are not going to offer any other registration service at the schools. Even if you are a teacher in the school where the exercise is going on, you will not be allowed to register during this exercise”.
According to Prof. Attafuah, “the exercise is free,” and parents must attend to registration facilities at their children’s schools with their birth certificates or passports.
He emphasized that parents or counsel must come to the school and assist NIA in registering the kid as a guarantor if the youngster does not meet any of the two requirements.
Approximately 170 districts nationwide will participate in the registration process, according to NIA. The activity will be conducted in every area that has an office of the National Health Insurance Authority, which is crucial.
Prof. Attfua mentioned that NIA will provide the required training for teachers at the various schools as part of the exercise.
In addition, Prof. Attafuah said that the NIA is preparing its officials for the procedure because they would be interacting with both parents and children. He also stated that the exercise won’t interfere with academic pursuits during school hours.
