An indefinite strike that started on June 10, 2024, has been suspended, according to the Divisional Executives Council of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of TLIC (Ghana), National Identifications Authority(NIA) Division.

Important talks with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) are set to take place on Friday, June 14, 2024, however the suspension occurs before those talks.

The FWSC’s offer to continue discussions and many comments from important parties, such as the Minister of National Security, preceded this decision.

On the basis of a recent National Labor Commission verdict and the substantial public reaction to the strike, the PSWU also followed their mother union’s suggestion.

The union has received assurances from the FWSC that good faith negotiations will take place. But the union has made it clear that they are ready to start industrial action again if the government does not provide the Institution Specific Allowances by the end of Friday’s talks.

It is requested that union members report back to work on Thursday, June 13, 2024, and carry out their professional responsibilities.

PSWU thanks the media for its coverage of the strike and for the solidarity displayed during it. They also recognized how interested the general public was in the issue.

In keeping with the contributions from different authorities, the PSWU has cautioned the government and the FWSC to show sincere commitment in the next round of negotiations in order to preserve labor peace.
