The late Nigerian gospel singer Osinachi’s husband, Peter Nwachukwu, was found guilty of the culpable homicide that resulted in her untimely death on April 8, 2022, and was sentenced to death by hanging.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, delivered the judgment on Monday, April 28.

Nwachukwu was found guilty of murder, child abuse, and marital abuse after the court decided that the prosecution had satisfied the burden of proof. On June 3, 2022, the defendant was arraigned and was charged with 23 offenses. These included grave crimes including spousal abuse and criminal intimidation.

The children of Osinachi were among the 17 witnesses who bravely shared their stories during the trial.

In an effort to clear Nwachukwu, the defense summoned five witnesses and produced four exhibits, while the prosecution produced twenty-five pieces of evidence.

The judge upheld the severe sentence despite Nwachukwu’s attorney’s pleas for mercy.

Nwachukwu received various jail sentences, including two years for multiple offenses, a fine, and other sanctions in addition to the death penalty for the killing accusation.
