Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, a former Odododiodio member of parliament, has been named the National Coordinator for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) by President John Dramani Mahama.
His position places him in charge of improving Ghana’s road system, which is a vital component of the country’s development.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo introduced DRIP in July 2024 with the goal of enhancing road networks in each of the 275 constituencies.
The program’s principal goal is to provide Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with the tools and resources they need to carry out efficient road construction and maintenance.
The initiative aims to decentralize infrastructure development as part of its mandate, giving local governments the flexibility to carry out urgent road improvements effectively and responsibly.
Since Mr. Vanderpuye has long argued for transparency and accountability in government-led infrastructure projects, his nomination is especially noteworthy.
Mr. Vanderpuye has had important ministerial roles outside of his time in parliament, such as Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of Youth and Sports in a previous Mahama administration.
Vanderpuye is required to supervise DRIP’s implementation in his capacity as National Coordinator, collaborating closely with pertinent parties to meet its goals.
