In the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Odododiodio parliamentary contest, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has withdrawn.
The current Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Greater Accra Region’s Odododiodio constituency is Nii Lantey Vanderpuye.
Despite having served in office since January 7, 2013, he did not submit a petition to run for re-election in the NDC parliamentary primary.
Three candidates have filed for the election set for October 31, 2023, according to Nii Adjebu Lamptey, chairman of the NDC Election Committee in the Odododiodio Constituency, in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on Wednesday (Oct. 11).
Born on June 11, 1965, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is a former minister of sports and the current representative for the Odododiodoo constituency.
He ran against Victor Okaikoi of the New Patriotic Party in the 2012 elections and won the seat of MP.
He was employed by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation from 1990 until 2004, rising to the position of Deputy Head of Sports.
He oversaw sports at Network Broadcasting Limited from 2005 until 2008.
He attended Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast and Bechem Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School. He graduated from the University of Ghana with a B.A. in English, Philosophy, and Classics and has a Master’s degree in Governance & Leadership from GIMPA.
