The High Court has granted the National Labour Commission (NLC) an interim injunction to stop the Ghana Highway Workers Union (CBMWU-TUC) and the Ghana Highway Authority Senior Staff Association, Accra, from going on strike.

This comes after an application that was submitted on November 13 by Ofosu Asamoah, the Executive Secretary.

The Association began their industrial strike action on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, and the application sought to prevent them from continuing.

“It is hereby ordered that the Respondents, whether by their executives, officers, members, agents, servants, employees, or other persons, are restrained from further continuation of the industrial strike action commenced on November 12, 2024,” the court stated.

The court further ordered that the Association comply with the NLC’s directives dated November 6, 2024, and call off the industrial strike action.”

“The application is granted for 10 days and upon its expiration the Applicant will have to come back to court on notice,” the court added.

In protest against the National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118), the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) Union and Senior Staff Association launched a nationwide strike on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Employees from the GHA’s national headquarters, regional offices, road maintenance units, and other locations participated in the strike.

The Association listed a number of important demands, claiming that the Act’s implementation should be stopped and that appointments made under it should be revoked since they are in violation of Ghana’s Constitution.
